Since he was here at the depths and then went up for a few weeks, I wondered what differences Anders Nilsson sees after his second win in a row.
“We’re working so hard,” he said. “Everybody’s working in the same direction. We’re finishing hits. We’re blocking shots, working 100 percent in the offensive zone, not just in the defensive zone.”
He had to work a little harder tonight than last night, but it got done. He figured his teammates blocked a lot of shots, which helped him out.
Everything’s getting done at a higher level, said Matt Donovan, who has eight points in the past six games. “On the forecheck, we’re taking the body instead of swinging away. We’re putting pucks to the net. On turnovers, we’re getting it deep and not turning it back over in the neutral zone.”
Not to say that Brent Thompson was entirely happy, but still. “It was an ugly win. We gutted it out,” he said.
Better than some of those pretty losses they had last month.
….
First six-game winning streak since March 5-19, 2010. It ties the fourth-longest regular-season winning streak in team history and the sixth-longest regular-season unbeaten streak.
I’m not sure about “Chelsea Dagger” as the goal song. Nothing against it, but it belongs to someone, you know? (Had a conversation like this on Twitter once before, but… am I overreacting to that? Do fans really care that the Blackhawks use that song, or do they just enjoy singing along? Do they even know other teams use it?) Either way, now it is probably stuck in your head.
Prescout. Will be nice to see some of those folks tomorrow.
While Bridgeport climbs, Hartford struggles. Kris Newbury got tossed with about 10 minutes to go, apparently for something he said. Edit: Got so hung up on the Newbury game misconduct, missed the Avery misconduct in the second.
Funny Penguins stat from Jonathan Bombulie.
Short rest. More tomorrow.
