Bridgeport Sound Tigers

Bourbeau, Friesen coming up

Odessa announced that Bridgeport has called up centerman Jean Bourbeau. The Sound Tigers also plan to sign defenseman Dustin Friesen, who was here in training camp, to a PTO. If they play, it’ll be the AHL debut for both.

Bourbeau had 12 goals and nine assists for the Jackalopes, who begin the CHL’s Southern Conference semifinals Friday night. Friesen started out in Utah, then went to Idaho and is plus-18 in 29 games there, with 13 of his 18 points on the power play. Friesen may be a rookie pro, by the way, but he just turned 27: four years of junior and five years of Canadian university play*. Bourbeau, a second-year pro who was called up a couple of times last year without dressing, is 26.

No specifics on Bridgeport injuries, unfortunately.

Edit: For the third year in a row, Pascal Morency is Bridgeport’s Yanick Dupre Award nominee.

While we’re here, officials on the two new affiliation agreements: Columbus in Springfield (with parent-appropriate color scheme), and Anaheim with Syracuse.

*-Which (to me, anyway) evokes the Kingston Trio’s John Stewart’s description of UCLA as a five-year undergraduate institution: four years of study and one year of finding a place to park.

  1. Mike, Since Columbus is going with Springfield will this mean the current roster in Syracuse if resigned will report to Springfield?

  2. Well, the full roster won’t likely make the trip intact; always changes at this level year to year. But the Columbus prospects and signings will be there. (If you’re wondering about Mirasty, he’s an AHL contract, so he’ll be free this summer.)

  3. Mirasty suspended 2 games and Sestito suspended for 1 after last night. Also, it’s about time they called up someone from Odessa. Too bad theyre about to start a playoff race. I guess that’s what these guys are all here for; to get to the next level. Good luck Jean.

  4. To clarify, those suspensions were just the automatic ones for accumulation of game misconducts.

  5. I was thinking Mirasty too, but I was talking to Moore last night and he was talking about possibly signing there next year if things worked out.

  6. Jeez, Bruno Gervais was injured tonight. Is there anyone left to call up. If necessary, please make it Jon Gleed!

  7. No more sending up guys. We tend to lose them to injury… The Islanders are done, We need the depth here to make the playoffs ;P

  8. I thinking keeping Witt here will help the team, I think that is why they don’t want to recall him
