Soundin' Off

Bridgeport Sound Tigers

Category: Leisenring

So far Thursday:

–Katic recalled for the first time, expected to make his NHL debut tonight at Philly.
–Joensuu sent down.
–Colliton also down after clearing waivers.

Team was supposed to be leaving around this time to spend the night in Manchester. Hoping to hear who’s making the trip, or if they might bring someone else in on defense.

Edit, 3:30: A guest in the comments passes along that Cincinnati announced it has loaned big defenseman Benn Olson to Bridgeport. Has 46 AHL games to his credit, mostly with the Albany River Rats.

Edit2, 5:10: And another defenseman: Elmira says it has loaned Chris Frank to the Sound Tigers.

And RIP, Jerrold Kessel.

Edit3, 6:45: Final pieces to the puzzle announced from Manchester: Rob Kwiet and Brady Leisenring released from their PTOs.

So to sum up

–Jon Sim is down but didn’t make the trip to Norfolk. Just a little banged up, is the word.
–Rhett Rakhshani up and concussed.
–Brady Leisenring returns, as was foretold to us Wednesday after the snow stopped falling.
–And today, popping up on the ECHL transactions: Jason Pitton, back to Bridgeport. He’ll be joining the team in Norfolk. (Make it four.)

Dustin Kohn and Rob Hisey made the trip. Also on the ride: Andy Hilbert. He’s making progress, apparently, and he and the team seem to figure it’ll be good to have him around.

Just noticed that Saturday is the Admirals’ Pink Rink Night. And unlike some teams, who maybe use pink tape or put a pink ribbon on the sweaters, Norfolk makes pink ice. If all goes well, it’ll look more like it did in that link than it did in this link.

The current AHL All-Star TV listings.

New AHL award, tying in with a new sponsorship: Performance of the Month. Alex Giroux got the win for his 600th point.

Wednesday night, Adrian Dater said it looked as if Greg Mauldin’s “15 minutes are up.” Thursday, Mauldin went on waivers.

Neat bit from Springfield about a group keeping the city’s hockey heritage alive.

We’re obviously not in Norfolk. Stop by Friday and Saturday for a liveblog.

Alumni watch

Hey, remember Jeremy Colliton?

That guy was all right. The tweets from Denver said his folks made it to the game and watched him for the first time in the NHL. Neat. And then quite a goal for Tavares to finish it off for Kevin Poulin to get his first NHL win.

Brady Leisenring‘s pro tryout became official about two hours before the game. He’s wearing the No. 14 last worn last year.

Bridgeport has one to scratch.
