I’m so utterly blown away by Sunday night’s Mad Men, I’m taking a week off.
Well, yes and no. Mad Men? Good gravy. Week off? Planned. This one will be spent much closer to home, though. The apartment needs work, and lots of it. Plus, I’ve got, like, six books out of the library, and who knows how many more of my own that I haven’t read. So, if stuff goes on, as always, leave me out of it I’ll hopefully be nearby to react to it, here and on Twitter.
What to expect? There’s still room for depth, here and up top, and if you follow Howard Saffan’s belief that Andy Hilbert won’t be here full-time, there’s still plenty of room for impact guys down the middle. More depth on defense never hurts, though that group has some talent. Will that depth come? I dunno. It’s several weeks now since USA Today’s Kevin Allen tweeted that the Isles could be extending training-camp invites to some veterans. If names of such have emerged, I’ve missed it. The Islanders have space to add a contract or two, even if one were to go to Nino Niederreiter and another were reserved for The Continuing Saga of Kirill Petrov. Players are still floating around out there. (Don’t think they’re targeting that type of defenseman, but has anyone seen a destination for Mark Flood?)

Random recent links before departure: Denis Hamel to the LNAH (it appears he can get out of it if he gets an offer from an NHL or AHL team, but still, qu’est-ce que c’est?), and Colton Fretter to Italy after Kassel, with which he signed earlier, “was lost by the insolvency.” Ryan Caldwell was signed to play there. (Tip o’cap to eliteprospects for the links.)
The Small Schools Myth, from Marginal Revolution. Don’t know how I missed the babbling toddler.

If nothing else, there’s one blog post scheduled for Tuesday. Otherwise, if nothing happens, see you in a week, by which time the kids will be gathering on the Island, preparing for those couple of games in Boston.

Mike,
What is the deal with Flood? Why hasn’t he signed … anywhere?? I thought he did a good job on special teams last year, any thoughts of whether we might see him back this year as a BST? Thanks.
