Soundin' Off

Bridgeport Sound Tigers

Poulin and Providence

Kevin Poulin put himself into the Bridgeport record books last night, and as soon as the puck drops tonight, he’ll get a listing in another spot. Wade Dubielewicz played 10 games in a row twice in 2005-06. He did it Dec. 10-31, 2005, soon after Chris Madden was injured; he did it again March 24-April 9 as the Sound Tigers pushed for the playoffs*. Poulin goes for the 10th time in a row tonight.

Same group as last night in the same order for Bridgeport. Providence has one to scratch, though all indications are that it’s Daniel Koger. Edit: Indeed, it is.

BRIDGEPORT
F: Haddad-Frischmon (A)-Riley
McNeely-Cizikas-Rakhshani
Haley (A)-Romano-Backman
Howes-Mouillierat-Aubin
D: de Haan-Wishart (A)
Donovan-Oleksy
Olson-Ness
G: Poulin
Riopel

PROVIDENCE
F: Caron-Hennessy-Arniel
MacDermid-Camper-Tardif (A)
Whitfield (C)-Cunningham-Robins
Ridderwall-MacKinnon-MacDonald
(Koger-scratch)
D: Bodnarchuk-Cohen
Bartkowski-Miller
Cantin-McIver (A)
G: Khudobin
Hutchinson

R: Cozzan, Kaval. L: Paquette, Boyle.

Far afield, but: Tough breaks for Pittsburgh.

*-Keeping with the team-record theme… It’s pretty much immaterial, but Dubielewicz was pulled from a game after two periods in each of those streaks. Only mention it because that game in the first streak was Dec. 17, 2005, when Dubielewicz made 34 saves on 39 shots in two periods. Hartford put one in on Freddy Cloutier in the third and took 55 shots in all, which is still Bridgeport’s team-record against. Four nights later was the turnaround win against Wilkes-Barre.

  1. Brent Thompson seems to be a very good coach – this team is playing the defense first style that it takes to win in today’s NHL – I wish the Islanders themselves played this way

  2. We all knew it would come to an end, but @220 minutes (Mike, please check the numbers) of shut out hockey is quite an accomplishment. Poulin is starting to look the player he was last year before the injury.

I would expect that Poulin would earn AHL player of the week honors, would you agree? Thanks.

  3. Can’t imagine anyone making a better case than three shutouts in four games.
