After running a few errands early this afternoon, pulled into a parking spot just as the phone rang. The caller ID, appropriately, read “Private Number.” Who else would that be?
Mark Wotton made it official this afternoon, the formal word on what had been reported since before camp began. As he told the radio reporter from Brandon, Manitoba, over the weekend (an interview that doesn’t appear to be online anymore, unfortunately, or I’d re-link), he said he wanted to keep the door open, just in case he felt a need to come back. But he said he hasn’t felt that need.
May have more in the paper; if not, will put some quotes up here.
Edit: From Rhett Rakhshani (@itsrhett) on Twitter: “Congrats to Mark Wotton on retirement and a great career. Couldn’t have asked for a better 1st captain. #cheerstowotts”
Edit2:: Here’s that story.

Caught my eye too; not exactly sure. I’d already talked to Wotton before I saw it, but he’d said he had no major plans for what’s next; taking things day by day and enjoying being home. Asked the Isles if he had a role currently or planned, and they said no.
