Always seem to be lying when I say “see you Tuesday,” no? Oh well.
Having been saying “longest unbeaten streak of the shootout era” since about 5:30, I’ve spent the past little while trying to disprove myself. And for certain definitions, it’s possible.
–Being a big fan of the “shootout losses are basically ties” school of thought, might as well include them as ties in “unbeaten” streaks. If you do that, there are two longer “unbeaten” streaks and one equal: an 11-game streak late in 2008-09 (8-0-0-3, Feb. 11-March 1); a seven-game streak early that year (6-0-0-1, Nov. 5-18), and a nine-game streak back in 2005-06 (7-0-0-2, Dec. 21, 2005-Jan. 11, 2006, beginning with the Wilkes-Barre turnaround win).
–There’s also a definition that produces a nine-game winning streak for Bridgeport in 2009. Granted, it’s the final five games of 2008-09 and the first four games of 2009-10, but still.
Meant this as a companion to the postgameblog, so any comments, please leave them there. Thanks.
Let’s try this again: See you Tuesday.
