City Will Keep John Downs House, Sell Land for $860,000

This is the map of the John Downs property (#139) that the for-profit arm of the company that includes Milford Hospital is buying from the city for $860,000. The company, which plans to develop a medical office building on the site, will donate the house itself and 12,500 square feet of land behind it back to the city.

The home of the Revolutionary War hero may become a museum or visitors center run by the Milford Preservation Trust.

Mayor James L. Richetelli Jr. signed the transfer documents on Friday morning. The hospital’s affiliate, the Torry Corp., plans to expand its medical office campus with a third building, which will be on the Downs property but facing the Boston Post Road, officials said.

  1. This property is in the Milford Historic District and the River Park National Register Historic District.

Did the City get a certificate of appropriateness from the Historic District Commission?

  2. They should bulldoze that old shack down or better yet feed it to termites
