Steve Kimock Crazy Engine just finished and was actually better than I could’ve hoped. Of course, it helped to have keyboard great Bernie Worrell as a guest star.
Worrell, for the uninitiated, was a founding member of Parliament-Funkadelic with George Clinton and was a featured player on some of Talking Heads’ biggest hits.
Kimock is a guitar whiz who has played with many Grateful Dead-related bands, such as Keith and Donna Godchaux’s Heart of Gold Band, Bob Weir’s Kingfish, Vince Welnick’s Missing Man Formation, Phil Lesh and Friends, The Other Ones and The Rhythm Devils. He also filled in for Weir’s Ratdog when guitarist Mark Karan was getting treated for cancer.
The songs were basically all long jams, but they were strong enough to keep one’s attention. An enjoyable way to spend an hour or so.
